The Schmitzoer Wedding
The happiest day of our lives
My wife made me say that
Elizabeth and Jacques Kilchoer
5 August 2000
Here the nervous bride and groom pose for pre-wedding pictures as they wait for the nuptials to begin.
To the left you can see Elizabeth holding her bridal bouquet before the wedding ceremony. Judging from the smile on her face, it seems as though she is looking forward to spending a life of never-ending surprises as the wife of Jacques Kilchoer.
Of course Jacques was not allowed to see Elizabeth before the wedding, so she was safely tucked away in a secret location while Jacques and the groomsmen took their pre-wedding pictures. Jacques looks rather pensive as he begins to realize that he will soon be a married man!
After her myriad of beauty appointments throughout the day, Elizabeth was finally ready to awe Jacques as she walked down the aisle, accompanied by both of her parents, to become his wife.
It was a sunny southern California day and the weather was just perfect for an outdoor evening wedding.
Here you see Elizabeth at her parents’ house in Costa Mesa getting ready to leave for the Discovery Museum complete with her bottle of Evian water.
As the guests waited for the ceremony to begin they were entertained by a violin and cello duo in the outdoor garden setting by the gazebo. François and Steven acted as the ushers and escorted all of the guests to their seats. Before the ceremony both sets of parents lit separate candles as a symbol of their love for their son and daughter whom they were “giving freely into marriage on this their wedding day.” Both of Elizabeth’s parents walked her down the aisle as did both of Jacques’ parents happily give away the groom.
Brenainn and Brittanie, Jacques’ nephew and niece from Switzerland, were the ringbearer and flower girl at the wedding. They came all the way from a small town in Fribourg, Switzerland to be a special part of their Tonton Jacques’ (uncle Jacques’) wedding. Brenainn is sporting the latest Nehru tuxedo, while Brittanie is looking rather elegant in her flower girl dress made from the same fabric as the bridesmaids’ dresses.
Whenever you have children as part of the wedding ceremony you can always count on unexpected events to happen. Brittanie, the flower girl was so nervous and excited about walking down the aisle that she used up all of her flower petals before she even got to where the guests were sitting.
The kiss of wedded bliss
The ceremony was beautifully timed as the sun was setting when the bride and groom sealed their wedding vows with a kiss. As said in the wedding vows “Two strong individuals make a stronger union.” That is definitely true with two strong and independent individuals such as Elizabeth and Jacques. If you look closely at the flower girl, Brittanie, on the left she has her hand over her eyes in an attempt to keep from witnessing “cooties.”
The ceremony was sealed not only with a kiss but also with a reading of the Indian Wedding Prayer.
Now you will feel no rain
For each of you will be shelter to the other.
Now you will feel no cold
For each of you will be warmth to the other.
Now you will feel no loneliness
For each of you will be companionship to the other.
Now you are two persons
But there is but one life before you.
Go now to your dwelling place
To enter the days of your life together
May yours days be good and long upon the earth.
Once the fateful kiss sealed Elizabeth and Jacques in holy matrimony it was time for the infamous wedding pictures of the joined families while the wedding guests enjoyed fruit and cocktails at the reception.
